Prefab Sprout
I forgot how much I liked this band. And it’s no coincidence that Stars named themselves after Prefab Sprout — the male/female vocal combo, the syrupy arrangements, the heartfelt lyrics. If you’ve never had the pleasure, give a listen (and try to excuse the two-decades-old quality of the video) to one of their biggest hits, “Goodbye Lucille #1 (Johnny Johnny).”

I loved their first US album - Two Wheels Good/Steve McQueen (which I have on vinyl) but I liked each one of their subsequent albums a little less. Sill, I did listen to that first album obsessively for a while. I see they have a CD remaster of 2WG with some acoustic versions on it, so I may have to pick that up.
